Strath Haven explodes past Pittston
by Joe Stokes
Strath Haven High School of Delaware County (1999 & 2000 PIAA Champions AAA) continued its march to a fourth consecutive trip to Hershey with an exciting come back victory over District Two Champion Pittston. The game was played in windy and cold conditions at Meyers Stadium Wilkes-Barre Pa.
Pittston jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter that seemed to awaken the potent Panther offense and lead to an awesome 35 point third quarter explosion that buried Pittston's hope to advance to the AAA State semifinals.
Strath Haven's offense was again lead by Keith Davis and Dan Connor whose combined rushing yards of 235 yard wore down the hard working Pittston defense.
The third quarter outburst included 2 touchdowns by Connor, as well as a 62 yard romp by Davis, a John Durnell 2 yard run and a Dave Peck 11 yard reception from Rodney Turner and insurmountable 42-17 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Strath Haven had won 44 straight games before losing to West Allegheny in last season's AAA Championship game. The Panther's were 10-0 this season and have 63 straight regular season victories under their belt.
Strath Haven faces Lower Dauphin in next weeks Pennsylvania State semi final AAA playoff.

by Joe Stokes
Strath Haven High School of Delaware County (1999 & 2000 PIAA Champions AAA) pitched its fourth straight shutout on the way to a 49-0 victory over Central League rival Lower Merion on Friday night. The game was played in damp and chilly conditions at George L. King Field in Wallingford.
The Panthers scored early and often with touchdowns by Keith Davis, Quinton Brown, Lenny Carter (2), John Durnell, Phil Atkinson and Matt Thorne-Fitzgerald accounting for a 49-0 half-time blowout.
The Strath Haven defense was exceptional holding the Aces to just 117 total yards and only 6 first downs for the night.
Strath Haven had won 44 straight games before losing to West Allegheny in last season's AAA Championship game. The Panther's are 9-0 this season and have 62 straight regular season victories under their belt.
Strath Haven hosts cross-town rival Penncrest (8-1) with both the Media Bowl and Central League championship on the line next Friday night. A win by Penncrest would force a three way tie with Ridley, Penncrest and Strath Haven sharing the Central League crown while a Strath Haven victory would assure the Panthers of sole possession of yet another banner.

Strath Haven routs Radnor
by Joe Stokes
Strath Haven High School of Delaware County (1999 & 2000 PIAA Champions AAA) pounded out 21 first quarter points on it's way to a 42-21 victory over previously undefeated Radnor on Saturday night at George L. King Field in Wallingford.
The Panther offense exploded with Dan Connor, Keith Davis, and Lenny Carter all finding pay dirt before the end of the first quarter. The onslaught continued into the second quarter as Dave Peck was on the receiving end of a 9 yard touchdown pass from Rodney Turner and Dan Connor scored a second time on a 2 yard plunge for an insurmountable 35-7 lead at the half.
The second half opened with the Panthers adding to their lead on 4 yard scamper by Lenny Carter to end any hope for a Red Raider rally. Strath Haven returned to its old form after struggling to win last weeks contest with Ridley. The Haven defense was also dominant in this contest allowing Radnor little hope of keeping up with the high scoring effort of the Panther offense on this night.
Strath Haven had won 44 straight games before losing to West Allegheny in last season's AAA Championship game. The Panther's are 5-0 this season and now have sole possession of first place in the Central League

Strath Haven back on track
by Joe Stokes
Strath Haven High School of Delaware County (1999 & 2000 PIAA
Champions AAA) started off the 2002 season in unfamiliar territory. It was necessary for this year's Panther squad to begin the next winning streak.
Strath Haven had won 44 straight games before losing to West Allegheny
in last season's AAA Championship game.
The Panther's first opponent was Interboro, which had owned the longest Delaware County win streak at 41 games before losing a AAAA playoff
game in 2000 District One tournament.
With the history lesson complete, it is now time that we go back to the future and follow the Panthers into the 2002 campaign.
Strath Haven jumped out to a 21-7 half-time advantage on the legs of Keith Davis and Lenny Carter as well as the arm of new starting quarterback Rodney Turner.
Strath Haven opened the scoring 3 minutes into the game on a 16 yard
pass from Turner to Davis and never looked back. This touchdown was followed by two short runs by Davis and Carter in the second quarter.
Although Interboro was able to move the ball on some spirited carries
by Jake Sheffield and Evan McDonough their only score of the night
came late in the first half on a 1 yard Sheffield plunge into the end zone
leaving a 21-7 half-time advantage to the Panthers.
The second half belonged to Strath Haven as they scored 28 unanswered points with Dan Conner, Dave Peck, Matt Thorne-Fitzgerald
and Mark Romanelli all finding pay dirt and 49-7 season opening victory.
Strath Haven visits Springfield next Thursday afternoon while Interboro
has its home opener against Monsignor Bonner next Friday night.
